Prior to the examination, the extent of the examination and particular wishes are discussed with the veterinarian. The veterinarian will ask for information about the horses’ history, breeding and current training as well as the purchasers’ ambitions and expectations of the horse in the future.
It is also important to obtain information about the test ride, in case there where any problems that the veterinarian should pay extra attention to during the examination.
The conversation at the beginning of the pre-purchase exam, between veterinarian, purchaser and seller are of great importance to be able to come to a satisfyingly conclusion. Also when problems occur during the exam (e.g. positive flexing tests) it is useful to have both parties present, so as to make an acceptable decision for all parties of how to proceed.
