To view the „pdf- files“ you need to use the gratis Acrobat Reader:The „Röntgenleitfaden“ (a german system) as assessment
With the use of this protocol radiographs are classified into different categories which reflect the state of the particular joint or bone structure. Veterinarians are not obligated to use this protocol. Equine clinic Burg Mueggenhausen GmbH decided to use this protocol for judging radiographs. You are free to decide whether you would like to have the radiographs examined according to this protocol or not. This protocol can only be applied to particular radiographs, the 12 standard radiographs with additional images (up to 19 in total), the other radiographs can not be assessed in these categories. The categorisation does not give any predictions about the usability or the clinical conditions of the horse.
Unfortunately this way of assessing radiographs is often misused. Because there is a classification from 1 till 4, people have a tendency to say that their horse had a “oner- PPE”. This is not reliable because this classification says only something about the assessed radiographs. Maybe there are other body regions which would have a lower classification if they where assessed as well.
Besides that it is a shame that there is no scientific information about the use of this system, it is possible that 2 veterinarians can come to a different result for the same radiographs. This is sometimes problematic when the horse is sold again. At the end the horse receives an overall classification grade which is based on the radiograph with the worst (highest) assessed category.
