Information from the seller

For the purchaser and the veterinarian it is important to have information about the history of the horse. This information should include any previous diseases, injuries and surgeries. In many cases, veterinarians are not able to determine previous treatments. They are therefore dependant on a thorough history from the seller in order to obtain a reliable impression of the health status of the horse.

For example when the horse has had a “Chip- surgery” in the past, the veterinarian might not be able to determine this during the examination. Even on radiographs this might not be visible. Nevertheless, there could be joint alterations within the cartilage due to previous surgery. Such alterations could in the future influence the horses’ ability to perform. The same goes for lameness’s and intake of therapeutical substances.

For example a horse was treated within its joints a few weeks before the examination, but is on the day of the pre-purchase examination sound. The information of this prior treatment is then still important to know because the horse can go lame again after a few weeks of full training.

It is also interesting to know how long the horse is owned by the seller. The situation is completely different when the horse has been owned by the seller for only a few weeks.

Any information about the horse should be signed by both the seller and purchaser. The purchaser is responsible to get the signature from the seller.
