Osteokin®-therapy
Abbreviated its called PRP- platelet rich plasma. This method has already been in use in Burg Müggenhausen since 2004.
Osteokin® has become very important within the biotechnological treatment options for tendon injuries. Osteokin® is abbreviated to PRP- platelet rich plasma. Since 2004 the technique has been used and developed further for equine use at Burg Müggenhausen.
Similar to IRAP® , Osteokin® is taken from the blood collected from the equine patient. This means specific laboratory techniques need to be used as well as specific processing equipment.
A few stem cells, thrombocytes and an abundance of growth factors are found in the plasma. This concentrated solution will be injected directly into the damaged tendon and ligament tissues. This procedure encourages healing of the damaged tissue with exceptional success. Therefore we were able to accelerate the healing of severely damaged tissues. As it is a product of the horses own body there have as yet been no side effects.
To develop this method further we have combined Osteokin® with bone marrow to increase the amount of stem cells.
